no birthday celebration this year?

I was just wondering why there has been no zone birthday celebration this year. It's almost the end of January, and usually at some point during January there are new games or features revealed, everyone's points are set back to 1000, and someone with at least a billion points is given a free premium membership for a year.

I highly doubt much is going to be done this year. Unless there are things J and Chris have been up to that I don't know about, I do not think any new features are in the works. As for the poitns reset and free premium give away, I have just written to the staff asking about it, and hopefully will get some kind of answer.

So how old is seven years in Zone years? What if that puts Zone BBS at middle age? Then maybe it doesn't want to do birthday's anymore, like that guy on City Slickers ...

I didn't even know it was the zone's birthday, to be honest. lol.

I hate to see the zone's birthday, though. one fine morning, someone will take off all my one year earned points and that's the only thing visible to me on zone's birthday so.

Raaj.

i was going to post about this, and to be honest.. i'm pretty shocked

i think partly the reason we didon't celebrate is because the admins have not been on- could that be it?

i just hope something's done- the zone's birthday is not the same with out a celebration. it's an important event

I'm more shocked that people actually remember when the zone's birthday is. Seriously.

well- i guess when it's celebrated year after year- you do get it stuck in your brain:)

I don't really see the point. Oh, how do some people get billions of points if they are reset every year?

Post 10 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Monday, 31-Jan-2011 18:12:19

yeah that's a good question- can't understand how anyone could be so clever

could they be cheating and using the anagram genirators?

hmm

Dan, I'm shocked that you're shocked at the lack of a birthday celebration. LOL. You know the admins are rarely on. I posted a question about this to the staff list, but have received literally 0 response, so I highly doubt that anything is going to be done for it this year.

Yes, people do cheat and use anagram generators, but there's not much we can do about it. They also use games like high-low, and others. QN Quiz league, and sometimes point transfers from other users.

Last year, just a couple of days after the points were reset, a couple of users had 53 billion points. Of course, my concern was simply waved away, and eventually, I hushed.

I, too, am among those shocked that people remember when the zone's birthday is.

Points aren't good for much, really, so I tend not to care when I see people accumulating them at a crazy rate like that.

I never thought of a site technically having a birthday, but if it must, does More's Law apply? That would about double its age every 18 months or so.

I originally brought this up just because I'm a person who likes consistency. For several years in a row now there has been a celebration, and one of the things done was that someone would get a free premium membership for a year if they had a certain number of points. I just hate to see promises made, and I guess it was more of an implied promise than an actual one, but to just let it drop without doing anything this year seems unfair.

Now about the points. Last year, sometime after points were reset I went to play the trivia game, and we could still bet an unlimited number of points, thereby also winning incredible amounts of points. I built my points up to quite a high level before someone caught the mistake and reset the betting limit back down to 100000. Another way people have gotten high numbers of points is to ask friends to transfer points to them. As for anagrams, I don't think anyone could possibly get billions of points playing that game. The way things are set up now, that would be impossible, even if they used an anagram generator.

Considering the most you can get on an anagram game is a thousand points, I shutter to think how little a life someone has if they've literally accumulated billions that way. Hundreds of thousands, maybe, but not billions. I'm sure most of it has come from point transfer and QN Quizz league.

When Hi-Lo was good, that's how I got tons of points, but then they got reset and Hi-Lo went to pot so...
I honestly forgot about the Zone's birthday, but I think it's just another sign that The Zone isn't top priority anymore and we sholdn't be expecting too many future upgrades, if any at all. This is why I haven't wasted my money on a Premium membership, and I don't plan on it unless a miracle happens and we get features worth investing my money.

Post 19 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 03-Feb-2011 15:34:54

I think either Hi-Lo should go back to the way it was, or we should go back to the unlimited bet max system. Playing the games were a lot more fun that way, because the risks were a lot higher. Just my opinion.

Post 20 by Blind_Musician (Generic Zoner) on Thursday, 10-Mar-2011 4:08:46

From what I heard, Hi Lo was pretty cool at one point. Seems a little annoying now. If points aren't good for much, why cripple the game at all? The premium users paid for those high betting limits, and to have those taken away is simply unfair to them. Why are point-related features being messed with in the first place.

As for the zone's birthday, I'm amazed that someone not only remembered it, but came out here to post about it and wonder why there wasn't some sort of birthday celebration. When facebook had its birthday (if you can even call it that), a few weeks ago, did anyone notice anything unusual happening? I only know about it because it was posted on twitter.
